The winner of the Innovations in Sourcing award is Microsoft and CDP.
In order to drive awareness and inspire action on the impact of climate change across the company’s global supply chain, Microsoft leveraged its Supplier relationships to build capacity for emissions reductions by embedding carbon performance within the procurement decision-making process. Aligning with the company’s overall mission to “Empower every person and organization on the planet to achieve more”, Microsoft partnered with the CDP to enable it to accurately measure the CO2 footprint of their global supply chain. Project outcomes include the establishment of a global standard for carbon emissions reporting, 18.1 million metric tons of carbon emissions reductions across its supply chain in 2018, capacity building and transparency for Suppliers on carbon emissions reduction strategies, and the alignment of billions of dollars of sustainable investors with the billions of dollars of sustainable purchasers.
